Operating in Longwall Galatia: Ultrasound Transducer measures Ram Stroke

by Dr. Stefan Maria Kutsch

Comeback with Ultrasound

Together with its US representative United Mining Equipment marco recently launched the pm32 roof support control system in the Galatia longwall. The system provides shearer-initiated roof support automation using the marco infrared transmitter. The marco ultrasound sensor is replacing the standard ram transducer. It is mounted near the roof support leg and combines an infrared receiver for measurement of the distance to the conveyor and an inclinometer in one enclosure. The ultrasound transducer was used for the first time in the Russian mine Sadinskaja in the Rostov region, where it is also succesfully in operation in a low seam system.
