This system causes a scalpel to vibrate thereby increasing the effective cutting force.
It consists of 2 co-ordinated components: the actual cutting drive and
the controlling electronics.
The cutting drive is air-cooled. If it gets over-heated, it is automatically switched off and after having sufficiently cooled down, is switched back on.
The electronics activate the cutting drive using alternating voltage,
the frequency of which always corresponds to the resonance frequency of
the cutting drive. At the same time, the electronics monitor the
inner temperature of the drive.
